OKAY MASSIVE VENOM THE LAST DANCE SPOILERS AHEAD BUT I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS PARALLEL ALL WEEKEND WHO WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT HOW ONE OF THE SCENES AT THE END MIRRORS A PAINTING I wrote a whole analysis under the cut. I’m normal about this symbiote and you should be too
OKAY SO one specific parallel I found is in one of the final scenes of the movie, as Venom is sacrificing himself and saying his goodbyes to Eddie. The positioning of Eddie’s hand and the framing of the reaching shot feels incredibly deliberate, and seems to be a direct mirror of Michaelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, as shown below:
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN THOUGH?? For some art history context:
The Creation of Adam is a fresco piece created by Michaelangelo on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. Whilst the frescoes in the Chapel were commissioned by a variety of Popes to a variety of Florentine Renaissance master craftsmen, the collection by Michaelangelo on the ceiling and behind the altar, commissioned by Pope Julius II, are widely considered to be the most important. They depict scenes and figureheads of the Old Testament. The Creation of Adam was made in 1511 and took sixteen days of work to complete.
The fresco depicts an illustration of the moment in Genesis where God gives life to Adam, the first man. It seems to be directly inspired in particular by Genesis 1:26:
“Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness"”
The outstretched pose, with the almost but not quite contact, symbolises the divine breath of life, the spark between them that gave mankind life in the first place.
But they don’t touch. Are they reaching out to touch, or are they letting go? If they’re reaching for each other, the painting could depict desire, a want for closeness- and if they’re letting go, an independence, separation, an assertion of “me without you”.
To examine the movie itself: If we look at the screenshot attached, Eddie’s finger placement feels VERY deliberately reminiscent of God’s hand within Michaelangelo’s piece. That outstretched hand, unsure if it’s letting go or grasping out one final time, to Venom’s approaching, then retreating, tendril. Interestingly, though, if Eddie is standing in for God here, he’s depicted in the lower part of the canvas, Venom-Adam approaching from above. This could be reminiscent of His creation becoming “more than him”, ascending beyond His reach.
The roles here are pretty self explanatory. When the symbiotes first landed on Earth in Venom (2018), it was discovered that they could not survive without an oxygen-breathing host, hence the beginning of the symbiosis trials by Drake in the first place. In providing Venom with a suitable environment in which to live, it could be said that Eddie gave Venom life. The inverse could probably also be said to be true- Venom healing Eddie, and providing him with all the strength he does, could be seen as godly acts, especially in the revelation in The Last Dance that he was directly responsible for Eddie’s resurrection. Perhaps one interpretation puts Venom, the strange alien with the ability to keep Eddie walking no matter what, as God initially created Adam with the prospect of eternal life. The other could be stated that Eddie is directly allowing Venom to live in providing him with the perfect host, in a unique way to any other temporary host.
The Venom story in Spiderman can be seen as biblical, anyway - a lot of Venom’s scenes are around churches, and the storyline shows Peter paying for his sins, purging his “inner demon” and being reborn. A lot of Venom’s storylines can be seen in a similar way, with him being a literal personification of a violent, intrusive line of thoughts before he and Eddie find a way to coexist in a healthier (albeit imperfect) way.
The science bit that ties it all together:
A deeper dive into the composition of the fresco reveals a lot more, though. An article written by Frank Lynn Meshberger, MD, makes an argument that the painting can be interpreted in a neuroanatomical manner. The shape of the drapery and the angelic figures around God resemble a human brain, in surprising anatomical detail.
In this interpretation, God is superimposed over the limbic system, which is responsible for emotion, memory, learning, behaviour and motivations. His arm extends through the prefrontal cortex, “the most creative and most uniquely human region of the brain”.
Michelangelo had a lifelong interest in anatomy that extended beyond the artistic, participating in public dissections from a very young age. Thus, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that this brainlike imagery is entirely deliberate - especially when his religious views are considered. He believed that the divinity we get from God is not life itself, but our intelligence, that it is one thing to give life to stone but another entirely to give it the ability to “try all things received”. In the painting, Adam is completely formed, aware, alive even, so perhaps it is not the gift of life being given in this moment - it’s the intellectual spark that the artist believed makes us human rather than beast, and the awakening of human ability and consciousness.
In this line of reasoning, the symbolism in Venom: The Last Dance makes even more sense with Eddie as the Godlike figure in this instance. In a literal sense, Venom lives within Eddie’s mind when he is dormant, and puppets his body similarly to an external nervous system. More figuratively, though, at this point in the movie, it’s perhaps made most obvious just how much Eddie has changed Venom. He is capable of emotional reasoning, as starkly shown in his sacrifice. He has spent half the movie reminiscing on his and Eddie’s memories. He is very obviously a being that behaves very differently to how he did in Venom (2018), with very different motivations.
Eddie, in metaphorically reaching through that prefrontal cortex towards Venom, has made him more human, has gifted him with that human spark of life and intelligence and human ability to do and to be and to try all things received (and he does, most dramatically, in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and in his enthusiasm in throwing himself into things Eddie is more hesitant to - singing in the car, dancing, gambling even). And that’s how he dies - humanly, emotionally, simultaneously reaching out to Eddie and letting him go in the same motion, independent from him in a way that is both a first step into individuality, and the last sacrifice he will ever make for his best friend. (Well, boyfriend. Come the fuck on. “You would make a great father” and then the wedding scene cut?? MARVEL WHEN I GET YOU MARVEL)
ALSO THE FACT A PAINTING ABOUT LIFE’S CREATION MIRRORS VENOM’S DEATH?? HELLO. Either this is some massive dramatic opposition for effect or it’s foreshadowing. What if something was created at that moment. Cue the cockroach, cue the whole thing with Knull. Even if we don't get Symbrock back, Venom's probably making a return in some form - Venom or some other symbiote. Teddy's symbiote is still alive, after all - and so is the cockroach.

My baby giant clam Clamabelle has fully extended her mantle today, after recovering from shipping. She's also adjusting her position to attain the most comfy spot.
Yesterday I had to keep fiddling with her placement because she kept yeeting herself off the platform. Once Tridacna clams find a spot they like they'll permanently attach but the young ones are rowdy. They clumsily move around until they get the combo of light, stability and flow they're looking for.
Moving around like this can sometimes result in disasters where they fall too far and hurt themselves or they end up upside down in the sand bed where they're starved for light and their fleshy bits are vulnerable to opportunists, so I hope she stays relatively in this spot.
Tridacnid clams are the largest clams on Earth and have independently evolved a symbiosis with dinoflagellates and obtain a lot of their calories from photosynthesis just like coral does. The rest of their food is obtained from filtering sea water for microbes, like you'd expect from a clam. They're gorgeous, weird animals.
Clamabelle is a Tridacna maxima, which has the hilarious common name of "small giant clam" because they "only" grow to a length of 8-12 inches (20-31 cm) as compared to the bigger species of the Tridacna genus, such as Tridacna gigas, the largest clam in the world:
The smallest Tridacnid clam is Tridacna crocea, which "only" grows to a length of about 6 inches (15 cm). Tridacna crocea is also known as "the boring clam" but "boring" as in "cutting into rock" not "boring" as in "dull" because look at this little beast:
Really happy to have such an interesting specimen in my tank and I hope I can take good care of her.

Astrology of David and Gillian
I’m pretty amateur-ish as a reader (maybe a little more than). Strap in folks because this is WOW. So UNDER THE CUT if you dare read on…
Ok first thing’s first — the birth time is missing from David’s, and Gillian’s birth time isn’t a confirmed time. So ascendant signs and moon are ify…. But I’d buy that Gillian is a highly possible Leo Rising.
Their synastry chart:
Let’s talk about THIS wow. What I see regardless of a birth time — placements that are 100% known.
Immediately noting: Her Leo Mars conj. His Leo Venus. It’s not close to each other (2° and 27°) but wow a Mars/Venus connection. Pure chemistry - intense, passionate, hot…. In a lot of areas not just sexually (although a sexual attraction is usually a pretty strong gravitation). Lots of symbiosis, flow, yin & yang. In non-sexual realms this can ebb and flow into things like really heated explosive arguments to really intimate and passionate agreements. In Leo too?? 😂 a fire sign??? This is a pendulum swing of burning hot, fast, and bright to ultra cuddly, kitten behavior. At their best, it’s instinctive, unbreakable, match-my-freak energy. At their worst, it’s impulsive, irrational, arrogant, screaming-down-the-I95 type..
His Virgo Pluto conj. Her Virgo Venus….. please. PLEASE! It’s giving karmic. It’s giving past life. It’s giving contract.
On a more basic read: a Pluto aspect to a planet in a synastry chart is going to be felt. Pluto amplifies/intensifies - makes its presence known. That is black hole energy. And it’s right next to her Venus (5° tight conjunction)???? Bay-BE! Believe them when they say they don’t have any other relationship that compares to what their’s is. It’s pure devotion (in whatever terms/category you want to place them). The Pluto person (David) sees the beauty in the ugly and dark and death of the Venus person (Gillian). And Venus loves Pluto in its dark complex entirety.
Have I mentioned this is a RARE aspect?
Venus/Pluto conj. is chemistry and attraction on a level that goes beyond explainable (the irony of MSR right? Haaaa). At its best: this is again an unbreakable and magnetic force. It’s mind body soul linking — will not, cannot forget each other. At its worst: Pluto is represented by death and the devil. It can be obsessive, possessive, territorial, toxic This can manifest into things like jealousy, again heated fights, or also ways like: manipulation — because it’s such a consuming, intense, passionate aspect. In this sense: if Pluto is Hades, Venus is Persephone. In this case… David possibly has had issues with control when dealing with Gillian. While the love/connection is strong, there can be some irrational behavior on his end when it comes to Gillian especially if she exhibits behaviors of say breaking away from them being a unit - bc Pluto/Venus is such a “you’re my partner”.
Now you think that’s crazy… Her Lilith is conj. His Mars at an even tighter conjunction (2°). The closer the aspect, the stronger the effect.
If you thought Gillian was off the hook on the last read — GEAR UP — because she’s far from being excused. Where the Pluto/Venus can be more of an emotional atmosphere, their Lilith/Mars can manifest in a more action-driven way.
‘Animalistic’ is more apt. This is yet ANOTHER indicator of that strong, passionate, intense attraction/chemistry. Not as “get a room!” as their Mars/Venus conj. but close (I feel like Mars/Venus “get a room” can visibly seen from space, but a Lilith/Mars may be more like a “we’re already in the room”). Here brings out their more impulsive side. There is high energy, excitement, comfort with this aspect. And in Gemini?!?!!! It’s giving “you jump I jump - fuck it let’s go!” Its live wire energy can bring a heightened desire to seek each other which can also again lead to obsession and toe the line of “too involved”. With this energy they also trigger each other — deep wounds and traumas emerge but it’s a welcomed sharing. And as a result a lot of mutual experiences are created that bond them together. Gillian being the Lilith person and David the Mars — the trust she puts in his hands is very high and intimate. How the Pluto/Venus works to consume, similarly this happens here as well. So basically Gillian has a tendency to do the same that David does - jealousy, assertion, manipulation, power struggles and dominance. It’s aggressive energy. It’s like “we went through fire together. Who dares to try and usurp where I stand with you?” kind of aggressiveness (possession?).
In unrelated mentions or not? Lilith/Mars conj. pushes forth a very strong sexual attraction coupled with the impulsive nature of this aspect, it’s an attraction that is difficult to not act upon in some way. Mars energy is masculine and Lilith is “dark feminine”, together it’s combustion. So whether the ramifications of acting on the energy or not, probably yields the same result..if not worse.
Then we have the moon. Gillian is an Aquarius moon (possibly Pisces?). David is also an Aquarius moon (smaller possibility of Pisces). But if I had to really guess - I’m almost certain they have the same and it’s Aquarius. I’m an Aquarius moon myself and rather than getting down to what it means, let’s just say they love a good detachment.
But to have the same moon as someone? Home. There’s a comfort, familiarity. You process emotions the same. You feel the same. Not to mention they both are Leo suns. Leo/Aquarius are sister signs and to have both their sun/moon matching AND sister signs? It’s opposites attract when necessary, and on-the-same-page more often than not. The yin/yang flow comes naturally. It’s “I know exactly how they’ll react”. It’s instinctive. If you flow with someone without having to try and don’t have to explain your feelings much because they just “know” and they just get you without much effort? You guys probably have the same moon. And no doubt that’s what Gillian and David have.
Anyway… this was a long post. But oh well. Did we really need to consult the stars? Does this add any more proof to the truths we already know? They’ve displayed iterations of these aspects in many ways over the years (*cough* 1998) so what is really new… Anyway someone more proficient can interpret this better probably but that’s just the big ones I got - thanks!
#gillovny#ddga#david and gillian#david duchovny#gillian anderson#imma be honest…. respectfully….. if they never had sex? what a waste. explosive hot passionate soul binding….#girl if not the best then definitely top 3 experiences was 2ft in front of you#gahdamn the mars/venus alone I would fold let alone a venus/pluto????#astrology#synastry

This is kinda just my personal opinion but I think that Bane and Bhaal’s sacred colors should’ve been swapped? Bhaal should’ve gotten red because it’s the color of blood and we all know that’s his favorite thing, and Bane should’ve gotten purple instead. Idk it’s just almost bizzare to me that it’s switched even if I can also see the current color placement as a bit symbolic based on the dead three’s symbiosis
Myrkul is dark blue
Bane is red
And Bhaal, being the gateway between their two domains is purple.
But meh I still think Mr I crave violence feed me blood should’ve gotten the color of blood.
(Maybe he WANTED red but Bane saw that and is like lol it’s my color now and Bhaal was too stubborn to also make it his color and look like he was copying bane)
To each their own. Red is predictable and a bit dull imo, also Bhaal was originally god of death of which violent death and murder are only a single aspect. Dark blue and purple suit the state of death and death meaning erasure of life/vitality (red) better, I think.
Bane loves violence and bloodshed just as much as Bhaal does. It's also a bolder colour, standing out against black, which befits Bane (who is a brasher character) a touch more than Bhaal, whose colour is specifically a deep/dark purple that will blend in better with the black (the rogue of the warrior-mage-thief party prizes stealth and is the least likely to the Dead Three to manifest/be seen). His clerical raiment is specifically designed to effectively erase the living beings wearing them (veils and hoods covering and obscuring the entire person, stripping them of personhood, and they will be worn in dark rooms erasing them further), red - a splash of which is permitted only to the highest clergy so that their rank can be spotted in the dark - only makes it harder for them to vanish. His temples, likewise, are spartan and devoid of the brightness or vitality present in a warm colour like red. Banites on the other hand are bright and flashy and should be easy to spot for intimidation purposes.
Bhaal also notably favours skeletons who have none of that sticky red stuff, which may connect (red = life, ergo Bhaal hates the colour?)
Arguably purple is the colour of red in darkness, when the warm of light leeches out or something something.

Roleswap Hashira and Their Fighting Styles
Managi - Water Pillar
It would surprise people to know that despite his flamboyant nature, Managi uses the most common breathing style with a basic katana.
Managi would roll his eyes at their confusion and occasional derision, regarding Water Breathing as the most beautiful of the Breathing styles, and staying ever loyal to his roots as a Swordsmith
And despite not being the best swordsmith, he forges his own swords whenever the opputunity arises, and they've served him faithfully and reliably.
Michikatsu - Moon Pillar
The Tsugikuni clan has maintained and refined Moon Breathing, honing it to the razor's edge, to the point that it is nearly impossible for someone not within the clan to wield it to its full effectiveness.
Though its sister base Styles (Save Stone) are performed with regular Katanas, over the centuries the Tsugikunis have found great success with longer weaponry, modifying the style for odachis, naginatas, nagamakis and Yaris, emphasizing precise footwork and hand placement in order to keep Demons at range.
Further expanding this range are the Trailing Stars, thin nichirin wires meant to rend demon flesh.
The Tsugikunis manage all of these through a technique known as the Empty Self, a sensory and/or extra sensory ability that allows them to perceive everything in a radius determined by the trailing stars wires (basically a watered down Transparent World)
Michikatsu has mastered all of them, wielding his modified naginata with brutal precision, amplified by the Trailing Stars and Empty Self.
Nakime - Sound Pillar
In contrast to Tengen, Nakime's Sound Breathing thrives on deliberate discord, flitting between an almost serene harmony characteristic of Flower Breathing, and rapid, frenzied strikes at home in Thunder Breathing.
Helping this along is a dao like blade and a straight edged tanto, linked by a chain equally suited for stabbing and slashing, uniquely designed to give off a discordant wail intolerant to demons with each swing.
But if silence is needed, or Nakime simply finds herself in a bind, she makes do with a heavy knife and her nichirin edged, wisteria rosined shamisen bachi.
Hakuji - Firework Pillar
Hakuji does not fight with a sword, in fact he seems disdainful of the very idea. Instead he fights with fists, legs, elbows and knees, helped along by clawed nichirin steel gauntlets and boots, studded with spikes and capped off by katar like blades that can spring out from each device, piercing the spinal cord between one blade becomes three, separating a Demon's head from its body.
If his Firework Breathing can be traced to any one of the classical styles, it might be found in the explosive strikes of Flame Breathing, and the circular defenses of Water Breathing , adopted out of necessity, but Hakuji's beloved Soryu Style still shines true.
Supplementing all of this is a physique similar to canon Mitsuri's, and a preternatural "battle sense" capable of sensing hostility and bloodlust.
Zohakuten - Emotion Pillar
When first picking up the sword, Zohakuten first adopted Flame Breathing.
But the varying personalities within his mind seemed to take to different styles, including Lightning Breathing, Wind Breathing, Water Breathing and Flower Breathing.
Through the odd symbiosis of these personalities, and the Breathing Styles they've taken to, Zohakuten has stitched together a style that Hashira Tsugikuni seems to recognize from his family scrolls.
Doma - Snow Pillar
When Doma first joined the Slayers, he took to Water Breathing, but soon found it to be...insufficient for his purposes.
Initially adopting a pair of tachi in place of the traditional katana, his self concocted Snow Breathing combined the fluidity of Water Breathing with the relentless offense of Wind, even adding elements of Mist Breathing as he again switched from his tachi to a pair of oversized, razor sharp fans wielded as either shortswords or clubs, supplemented with Wisteria laced throwing daggers.
Also unique to him is a unique lack of presence or intent, described by Hashira Hakuji as invisible in his battle sense, leaving him a dangerously unpredictable opponent in combat.
Gyutaro/Yuji - Poison Pillar
Despite his supposed musculature, Yuji's malnutrition left him bereft of much of the strength necessary to behead demons. While possible, it is much too strenuous to be viable for him.
Instead he uses a series of increasingly potent poisons, delivered via a pair of specially made, chained together kama, capable of injecting his concoctions through the edges and points of his scythes, and pop up blades located in the handles.
Inspired by Doma, Yuji wields these kama with his Poison Breathing, a viscous style combining the arcing blows of Stone Breathing and the relentless offense of Wind Breathing, intent on shredding tendons and delivering a death of a thousand cuts.
Daki/Ume - Ribbon Pillar
Initially taking to Flower Breathing, Daki found the style too stifling.
Instead, she created Ribbon Breathing, combining the agility of Flower Breathing with her incredible flexibility and elements of Mist Breathing, luring in opponents with the hypnotic motion of her whip like sword before cutting them to ribbons.
Kaigaku - Storm Pillar
It frustrated Kaigaku to no end that he could not master Thunder Breathing to the extent required to inherit his master's position as Thunder Pillar, but nonetheless, he persevered.
He would utilize elements of Water Breathing to create his Storm Breathing, a style characterized by explosive speed and fluid motions.

mula + fallen angels (1995)
spoiler warning!
nakshatras as movies i love
Ruled by Nirriti, this nakshatra is best symbolized by The Tower in tarot - the house is in flames and the only way out is through the window. Having Moola in your chart forces you to take leaps constantly. Nirrti is described in the Vedas as "terrifying" to behold - yet is known to be forgiving, bestowing fortune on those capable of living to her values.
To this effect, Mulas share a theme with the Yama-ruled Bharani: destruction is only the beginning. Ketuvian in nature, Mulas must give up the bonds holding them down to truly ascend to their fullest potential. The Sagittarius placement brings to mind a nebula, a graveyard of ancient stars bringing new light and potentially new life into the void. There is deep, incomprehensible beauty in letting go. There are wonders in just letting life's currents carry you elsewhere.
Sharing Prajapati as a ruler with Rohini, both nakshatras become foils - the slash and burn autumnal harvest of Mula forming a delicate symbiosis with the rain-drenched spring sowing of Rohini. Traditionally, it was auspicious to declare war during Moola. Those with this Sagittarius nakshatra often must make the hard decisions in lieu of others.
Ketu, faceless lord of sacrifice and enlightenment, can be an incomprehensible, difficult ruler. The shadow planet is beyond Mercurial speech, beyond Saturnian reason, beyond Solar Ego or Lunar Emotion, Martian will, Venusian desire or Jupiterian fortune. Mula means to "unroot", after all. Mula natives have to close one door to open a better one.

Started anti-depressants, such a gentle symbiosis with my brain.. the hypersensitivity and existential dread just gone. I feel like a regular person, not numb, just as if I rewound time to a naïver time. Quite content and stable. Amazing. I should have done this so long ago.
I'm reflecting on how far I've come. I'm nearly a counsellor. I have been counselling real people at placement, it feels great! Natural. I'm learning so so much. I'm closer to my partner than ever, co-witnessing the darkest times possible.
I've done so much internal work. So much relationship work. So much life maintenance practice. So much resilience through some of the darkest, bleakest moments of fear and dread and extreme emotions. Just this year I discovered I'm autistic. Life makes so much more sense. I nearly finished my academic journey. I'm tackling mental health with new found persistence, assertiveness, expression, tactfulness, acceptance, and gentleness. Healing is fking hard work. I just disassociated/numbed myself my whole life. Now, I get to rewrite that narrative.
Sure, I've fallen. Injured myself physically a few times (by accident! Hypermobility and autism, yo). Felt the chronic overwhelm of neurotypical society compressing me into a corner. Felt my PCOS body just aggravating my trauma/emotional extremes. Feeling myself dragged into hell screaming.
I feel more confident, more assertive, more communicative, more proactive, more able to ask for help. More able to redraw boundaries. I feel inspired, motivated, a little bit more engaged with the world and with myself, my friends and family. I don't want or need to hide anymore. My pains been aired to my community. The pain I kept so deep out of guilt of harming others with it. Running away when people would get too close.
I'm still me, but I've unlocked some new attitudes through digging up the armoured layers that were holding me down. So I'm also definitely not me that I look at photos from my 20s. I also know there are many new decades to unlock.
I just feel so much more cognitive and empowered. Trauma work, a thirst for learning, diverse experiences and cultures, supportive friends, and 9 years of academia have really helped me foster a strong mind. Not plagued by society's anti-human attitudes. But respectful of everyones journeys. Felt myself bump against experts and authorities with my own insight and realisation that I am powerful and have a voice when being made disempowered or exploited. And that not everyone has our best interests at hand. And to be direct.
Yeah baaaaaby! Let's do this, we got this.
